66% Petit Verdot, 17% Cab Sauv, 17% Syrah
6% Petit Verdot, 17% Cab Sauv, 17% Syrah. A bold blend that fits beautifully into Ruby Trust’s portfolio – distinctive for being modern and “outside the box,” while still reflecting the character of its terroir and the winery’s bracing style. The 2012 offers up intense aromas of ripe, blackberry-blueberry fruit combined with hints of cedar, licorice, wildflowers and toasted vanilla that expand as they spread across the palate. The wine is round and full-flavored, with firm tannins, fine acid balance, and a long lingering finish.
50% Syrah, 33% Cab Sauv, 17% Petit Verdot
50% Syrah, 33% Cab Sauv, 17% Petit Verdot. An aromatic blend, the wine’s bouquet displays powerful notes of raspberry jam and Bing cherry, interlaced with hints of vanilla, black pepper, dried herbs, cinnamon and nutmeg – elements that are echoed on the palate, flooding the mouth with rich, tangy flavors. The wine’s full-bodied style suggests early consumption, but its structure and balance will reward with a couple years of bottle age.
50% Petite Sirah, 30% Cab Sauv, 20% Syrah
50% Petite Sirah, 30% Cab Sauv, 20% Syrah. The wine is complex, tempestuous, and alluring, with deep, ripe, dark fruit redolent of boysenberry jam, intermingled with hints of vanilla, black pepper, tobacco leaf, wildflowers and allspice. It has a certain sophistication, but a bold presence and rich, spicy nuances make it anything but demure. Drink this distinctive blend now, if you must, but age it for two or three years for a real treat.
100% Petite Sirah
100% Petite Sirah. Dark and brooding, the wine’s intense aromas of black cherry and spice-enhanced by traces of toasted vanilla bean, honey-suckle and cedar-hold court in the glass. Plum-like flavors envelop the palate, leaving an impression of opulence, and lead to a finish that displays juicy tannins softened by notes of kirsch, warm fruit compote, nutmeg, smoke, and the desire to take another sip. The wine’s exemplary varietal character will only become more complex with a few years of bottle age.
100% Syrah. The wine pops with scents of charcuterie, ground pepper, black raspberry, licorice, cinnamon and cigar-box that come across like an American version of a rich concentrated Crozes-Hermitage from the northern Rhone. Dense, ripe, intense, and mouth-filling, the flavors roll into a finish that impresses with its decadent, silky-yet-plush, fruit-and-spice personality. “The Gambler” is a fine example of Colorado Syrah at its best.
